In Nieuwegein, a New Tram Remise (NTR) has been realised at the current location on the Remiseweg.
The building design consists of housing and a modern workshop. The workshop offers space for 27 new trams. Here the trams are maintained and cleaned.
The accommodation contains offices and communal facilities for the various users.
All work on the Utrecht tram system is accommodated in one place:
The new workshop has seven tracks and a car wash. This means that the workshop has twice the maintenance capacity. A new marshalling yard has been built on the site with enough space to store all the trams.
The building is surrounded by rail infrastructure of the sidings and the site layout. The location is regarded by the designers as 'an open spot in the woods'. This is because there is a green hedge of deciduous trees around the site. The design is based on this interpretation.
ArcelorMittal Construction was asked to produce and supply various systems for this new project. Facade plank profiles in various green colours, various Isis custom point profiles, sandwich panels in 100mm, roof panels and flashings in brown mottled coating.
