We all have a responsibility to improve our environment and stay on top of regulatory and economic issues. That’s why ArcelorMittal Construction invests heavily in R&D and new industrial solutions. We’re committed to shrinking the environmental footprint of buildings through our never-ending pursuit of innovation in steel and components. We protect the infinite lifecycle of our steel, with recycling an integral part of our new-product-development process. In fact all the steel in our products comes from sustainable sources and is fully recyclable.
Over recent years we have developed building envelope solutions that have sustainability at their core. Two of these are described below:
The new iQ+ System reflects ArcelorMittal Construction's commitment to reducing the environmental impact of construction. The solution offers a 15% increase in thermal resistance with a constant panel thickness. As a result, we have been able to reduce the panel thickness from 120 mm to 100 mm while maintaining thermal efficiency. For 2,000 m² of panels, that means 1.6 t less of foam and 50 kg less of steel (flashings, screws, etc.), with the added bonus of streamlined transport costs. Each panel manufactured with the iQ+ system generates less CO2, reducing CO2 emissions for a 2,000 m² facade by 4,000kg.
DISCOVER IQ+This attractive coating has outstanding surface quality and incredible lightness. The reduced weight improves the application process and reduces transport costs, while providing superior corrosion protection and a lifespan up to three times longer than standard zinc coating.
ZMevolution® pure zinc coatings cut the CO2 emissions generated from galvanising a kilogram of steel by almost 50%. For a single production site, that’s the equivalent of 13,000 vehicles traveling 13,000 kilometres per year on the road.
ArcelorMittal Construction has thus contributed to a cumulative saving of 90 million kg of CO2 emissions since ZMevolution® replaced the standard metal coating.
